Everybody Matters Podcast: The Swag Bag of Leadership

As we began to implement the principles of Truly Human Leadership in our leadership journey at Barry-Wehmiller, when we asked our people what they needed to be successful, they overwhelmingly responded: “Leadership training.” It was one of the reasons we created Barry-Wehmiller University.

Not every leader has access to this type of resource. In fact, many leaders are hired, sat in a chair and told, “Go to it.” They are not put in a position to truly lead people — no matter their good intentions — only to manage.

So, if there were a bag of tools you were given the day you were entrusted with the mantle of leadership, what would it look like? What are some things you would need to use everyday to effectively care for your people? One of our educators in Barry-Wehmiller University, David Vandermolen, returns to the Everybody Matters Podcast to talk about the things he thinks should be in “The Swag Bag of Leadership.”

Truly Human Leadership is found throughout Barry-Wehmiller Companies, where Bob Chapman is Chairman and CEO. A $2+ billion global capital equipment and engineering consulting firm, Barry-Wehmiller’s 11,000 team members are united around a common belief: we can use the power of business to build a better world. Chapman explores that idea in his Wall Street Journal best-selling book, Everybody Matters: The Extraordinary Power of Caring For Your People Like Family, available from Penguin Random House.
